Just the Basics Mystery Quilt Along Reminder and Update

There are no instructions this month for the Just the Basics Mystery Quilt-a-long, because the big reveal happened last month. Did you miss it? You can find it here :)

This is just a reminder that I'm hoping to have a parade of finished Just the Basics quilts (or quilt tops) next month, so I'd love it if you'd email me a picture if you were sewing along with me. I've seen a few finishes and I love them all!

And, if you weren't sewing along, but want to now that you see the finished quilt, there's still time! You can find all the instructions under the Just the Basics tab at the top of the blog.

I'm working on quilting my Just the Basics quilt, aiming to be finished before the parade next month ;) So far I've quilted all of the blue boxes.

The red stars are next, with matchstick quilting...

After the red stars are finished, I'm not sure what other designs I'll use. I'm kind of figuring this one out as I go along.

I do know I don't really want to use grey thread in these squares inside the stars, though. I want the quilting to show up a little more there, but I don't want it to be too much of a contrast. I'm thinking maybe one of these two threads.

I'm leaning a little more towards the yellow. It wouldn't disappear into the grey, but it wouldn't stand out as much as the red. What do you think?

  1. I like the yellow thread, too, because it will also be a nice contrast to the red that will show on the back of the quilt in the surrounding piecing. :)

  2. I agree - go for the yellow. There's some contrast, but not too much contrast :-)

  3. I don't know what to do!!! This is always the hardest part -- deciding on the quilting and thread colour. I vote for yellow as well.

  4. I heard it is good to go a couple shades darker for the quilting to stand out more. I also like the yellow for some contrast without too much contrast. Your quilting looks beautiful as always.
