January One Monthly Goal

One of my 2019 goals is to participate in the One Monthly Goal linkup at Elm Street Quilts each month to help me get some projects finished rather than having them continue languishing in the cupboard. Another of my goals is to finish the first responder quilts, preferably before the second anniversary of the fire in April. For this month, I'll be combining the two and setting an OMG in two parts.

The first part is that I will finish the quilting on at least one more of the first responder quilts. I'd love to quilt two, but I'll be satisfied if I get one more done. I already quilted one during the first part of our Christmas break, so I'm already one closer to being finished 😊 And since I have a lady who is willing to do all of the binding for me, I don't need to worry about that.

Here's the next quilt top that needs to be quilted (and pressed, obviously, lol).

The second part of the goal is to make contact with the RCMP, the fire chief and the EMTs to get an updated count of how many quilts I need. I know we have two new RCMP in town, which means two more quilts than were on my previous list, and the volunteer fire department had a recruitment drive in the fall. I've been putting off asking the fire chief how many new members joined because I've been avoiding knowing the final number. It's been easier mentally to feel like I have to do half a dozen or so more, even knowing I might actually need a full dozen, rather than finding out the actual number. Please tell me I'm not alone in feeling that way! However, if I'm to finally finish this project, I do need the accurate count.

I also need to count the finished quilts that are stacked up as I can't remember how many are done. I think that as I count I'll attach a piece of paper to each quilt with the intended recipient's name. That will make it a little easier when it comes time to photograph and blog about them all since I'll want to separate them into a couple of blog posts to avoid having so many quilts all in one post. Plus, that will be another task finished in preparation for actually giving the quilts away.

What are you working on this month?

  1. I think that getting a good count and knowing how many you have left to make sounds like a good start. I always fret about things until there is a solid number and then feel better just *knowing*, but that's what works best for me. I hope you are close and can wrap up this huge project joyfully soon!

  2. I have been doing the OMG challenge for about 3 years now and find it helps me to set reasonable goals and accomplish them. I even won the monthly prize from Fat Quarter Shop last Jan. It cost me $13 shipping for my $25 gift coupon.
