Announcing the Grace in the Meadow QAL!

Do you want to focus on Biblical truths in the lead up to Easter and make a beautiful quilt? I am excited to announce the Grace in the Meadow quilt along, which begins on February 17th, the first day of Lent, and runs until Easter Sunday (April 4th). Registration for the QAL will open on February 1st.

Each day of the QAL, except Sundays, I'll share a devotion to help us reflect on our salvation - the need for it, the hope we find in Jesus, our response to the gift God offers us and the result of salvation. It's my prayer that this will be a season of preparing our hearts to fully appreciate all that Good Friday and Easter Sunday mean for us.

Along the way, I'll release instructions for the blocks in my new Spring Meadow quilt pattern. Spring Meadow finishes at 72" square and includes 40 blocks for the 40 days of Lent. There are two options, both of which include traditional piecing and paper piecing for the pinwheel blocks. Both options are included when you register for the quilt along.

The first option uses fusible machine applique for the flower blocks, as shown above. I'm working on my applique version now, using gorgeous Northcott solids and Aurifil 50 wt thread.

The second option uses hand embroidery for the flower blocks.

I'll be using these Northcott Shimmer fabrics for my embroidery version during the QAL. For the embroidery itself, I'll be using Aurifil 12 wt (which I'm still waiting to have arrive in the mail).

I'll be sharing lots of tips and tricks as we make our Spring Meadow quilts. So if you're not really comfortable with paper piecing or fusible applique or embroidery, don't let that prevent you from joining in the fun. I'll be walking you through how I do it all - though you should know that my emphasis has always been more on enjoying the process than on perfection 😊

If you want to be sure you don't miss when the Grace in the Meadow registration opens, sign up for The Bulletin. The Bulletin is my twice-monthly newsletter and I hope you'll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.

  1. This is a lovely way to go through Lent, thoughtfully reflecting on Jesus's sacrifice, while building something meaningful. It would be pleasant to participate, but in more than 40 years of quiltmaking, I've made so many such quilts that... well, my interests are in other creating methods. But I appreciate and admire you for what you're doing to encourage others, especially newer quiltmakers. I hope this all goes well. Enjoy!
