About Me

Hi! I'm Leanne 👋 I've been quilting since 1997 and blogging here at Devoted Quilter since 2013. I discovered a love for designing quilt patterns in 2015. Since then, I've been published in Make Modern, Modern Patchwork and Quilty magazines, as well as in the 2018 Quilter's Planner. I have so many design ideas waiting for their turn to be made that I know I'll never run out of quilts to make. And, somehow, there are always new ideas brewing. It's such a wonderful problem to have!

I'm a modern quilter with a love for traditional blocks. I also love a good scrappy quilt and quilts with lots of tiny pieces. 1 ½" HSTs are nothing out of the ordinary for me.

I also love free motion quilting, which is my favourite part of the quilt making process. I do all my quilting on my domestic machine. I learned fmq on my Kenmore machine, with a throat space of only 5", and that's what I used for about 8 years so I know you can do it on whatever machine you have 😊 Now I have a Janome 6700, which has a throat space of 11", which was quite the upgrade!

I also dabble in garment sewing. Knit fabric scared me for years (it stretches!), but I finally took the plunge and gave it a try and I'm so glad I did. A lot of the skills I learned in quilting transferred well to sewing clothes, so I really believe any quilter can learn to make their own clothes, too. I really love being able to wear something I made, especially when someone compliments on on it and I can say, "Thanks, I made it!"

I'm wife to Paul and mom to Aiden, Zachary and Nathan. We live in Newfoundland, Canada where we enjoy hiking, snowshoeing, running and reading. I often share pictures of this beautiful province on social media, especially on Instagram. The ocean is my happy place and I love that I can see it from my house.

I love cooking and baking, too, which is part of why I try to get out for regular walks. That, and I always feel better after going for a walk!

I am also a believer in Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord. I share a devotion each Monday when I look at a section of the Bible and relate it to some aspect of life. My prayer is that these devotions will help readers grow closer to God, or allow you to learn about Him for the first time. My blog title, Devoted Quilter, comes from the mix of devotions and quilting projects that make up the majority of my posts.

I'd love to connect with you on Instagram and Facebook. Sign up for The Bulletin, my monthly newsletter than includes a collection of things to make, a recipe and news from me 😊 Click here to sign up

  3. What do you put your setting on with the free motion foot when you sew> What tension setting do you put it on> Also do you put the dog feeds down or keep them up. I can't get my free motion working right on the same machine that you have. The bobbin threads are a mess and a whole lot of eyelashes on the bobbin side. What number do you put your stitch on? When I'm regular sewing I usually put it on #1
    Thanks for any help,
    Love in Christ,
    Kay
