I had trouble deciding what to make. I wanted it to be practical, and small. At first I thought I'd make a pillow, but we're not really a throw pillow family, so that wouldn't have been very practical. Then I thought of making a zippered bag to hold all my hexie stuff for when I'm stitching on the go.
This container worked well to hold everything, but it wasn't very pretty! |
Here's a close-up of the appliqued bird. It's my version of a snow bunting. It's not quite right...the beak is much too big and the wing shouldn't be solid black, but it's close enough for me. We used to see snow buntings all summer when we lived in Igloolik, Nunavut, in the Canadian Arctic. Their song is so beautiful, and their flight path is so pretty to watch. I saw them a few years ago here in Newfoundland, while they were migrating back to the Arctic, and it was so nice to see them again.
The bag is nice and roomy inside, and holds plenty for a day's stitching while we drive.
While I can't claim to have planned this for the hop, don't you think some tiny little mama bird would love to make her nest in my thread catcher?
Thanks for visiting today. I hope you are enjoying the hop as much as I have been. Here is the schedule for today:
Love your take a long stitching bag! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your stitching bag. It is perfect for your take along project. Thank you so much for being part of this hop.

ReplyDeleteYour bag is delightful. A very nice place to carry your supplies.
ReplyDeleteYour purse is so cute. Thanks for sharing your creativity
ReplyDeleteNeat pouch and so much nicer than a plastic tub! Love the threadcatcher nest too.
ReplyDeleteOh he is very cute..and you di a nice job on your project bag.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet project pouch! the threadcatcher is a lovely little nest for your leftover threads. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThe pouch looks great. The more you make, the easier the zippers get. =)
ReplyDeleteGreat job for your first hop. I love your bag! You live in the most beautiful province in Canada with spectacular birds!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the pouch! Zippers scare me lol.
ReplyDeleteZippers scare me too!!!! lovely bag
ReplyDeleteahhh give up plastic any day for a great tote....love the birds nest too...perfect size to be included.
ReplyDeleteGreat little bag! Now that you conquered a zipper, you'll be making more and more bags! They are addictive.
ReplyDeleteOh, nice job!! I love your bag!
ReplyDeleteVery nice job, love this! I also like how you store your project in that container! I often use gallon sized zip lock bags, but you have me inspired. :) I may have to try that!
ReplyDeleteGreat little take-along bag. I love it. I'm afraid of zippers and need to try one to prove to myself that they are do-able. You did a great job with this one.
ReplyDeleteLove your littl bag! Aren't you glad you tried a zipper? They are really quite simple and easy to do. Thanks for sharing today!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to try a zipper. Glad you did and it worked!
ReplyDeleteNow that zippered tote is a wonderful upgrade from the ziploc container!! The fabric is gorgeous and the bird species a choice that is meaningful to you. His colors contrast so nicely.
ReplyDeleteYou are right about your thread catcher looking like a bird's nest in there. I have one of those made for each participant at a quilt retreat but it sure doesn't have the thread nest you have, LOL
nice zipper bag. I like your bird.
ReplyDeleteYour bag turned out so beautiful with the bird on it! I've put zippers in clothes before, but never on a bag. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to try it. I'd keep my eye out for the mama bird trying to use your thread catcher...too cute!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet. It is practical as well as beautiful. Nice work.
ReplyDeletesew tweet is your bag. I love my thread catcher too. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour little bird is very cute and nice job on the zipper. I don't mind putting them in the zip bags but haven't tackled any in clothes for quite a while so that would make me nervous.
ReplyDeleteYou did a wonderful job on your bag and the bird is so adorable.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the bag! Where in NL do you live? I'm in St. John's.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect little bag for your hexi's. I must say, I could so see a little bird hatched in you thread basket. ! LOL!
ReplyDeleteSweet bird on the bag. I made one of those little thread catcher's once too, but they are just way to tiny for me. I made several large thread catchers that are round or square that work better for all my threads.
ReplyDeleteCute bag and perfect for a take along!
ReplyDeleteI have a thread catcher like that too:) Love mine!!!
Great bag - I've never seen a snow bunting!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Love your snow bunting bag. Thanks for sharing and the links.
ReplyDeleteLOL Yes a bird would love your thread catcher. Love your snow bunting and your zippered bag is sew useful.
ReplyDeleteI love your little bag! The bird is adorable and I am sure any bird would love to make a nest in that thread catcher. I am also a knitter/crocheter and I snip up my short pieces of yarn to 1-2 inches and scatter them in my English Dogwood bush, rose bushes etc.... I love it when I see a bird nest with tiny scraps of my colorful yarn woven in!
ReplyDeletePS I am a new follower!
Cheers
jan
Beautiful bag! I love that you used the snow bunting. I don't think we get them at my end of the country. We get a bird that we call "snowbirds" but it is all white. Since you are in Newfoundland... I am trying to find a pattern for a "traditional Newfoundland quilt". My soon-to-be Newfie son-i-l has requested I make one. I can find pictures on the internet, but so far no one who can help me with design or patterns. If you have any insights would you e-mail me?
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the pouch. The bird is wonderful. I also thought, before actually reading that you made a nest. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteYou did a wonderful job on the zippered bag and the bird applique!
ReplyDeleteHi!!! Love your little bird bag!!! Very pretty!!!! I think little birdies would love your thread catcher and me too!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour thread catcher puts my "bowl" to shame; yours is so sweet. Loved the bag and the snow bunting; much prettier than the Glad container you were using!! lol
ReplyDeleteYour birdie is sooooo cute! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love your bag and the thread catcher is cool. I need one of each, thank you. :)
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a thread catcher, very useful. Great bag.
ReplyDeleteI loved the black & white bird. So nice.
ReplyDeleteI put threads and fabric slivers in a tube outside "for the Birds" and they use it for nests. LOL a big wind and I'll have thread all over my yard.
ReplyDeleteThe bird is super pretty! And your threadcatcher is really cute
ReplyDeleteYour birdie bag is much MUCH prettier than that lidded container, even if it did work nicely for ya. I'm sure your hexies like their new home much better. The little threadcatcher surily needs a little bird perched on it. Thank you for sharing your birdies with us and I'm following now so I can see what other neat ideas you will come with next.
ReplyDeleteSincerely,
Tricia
